YEAR ONE COURSES :* Transition to Medical School * Gross Anatomy, Imaging and Embryology : Integrates: Anatomy, embryology, surface anatomy, basic radiologic imaging. * Cell Structure & Function : Integrates: Biochemistry, basic nutrition, genetics, basic histology and cell physiology. * Systems Processes and Homeostasis : Integrates: Physiology and pharmacology. * Biological Basis of Disease : Integrates: Immunology, microbiology, general pathology and genetics. * Principles of Clinical Medicine & Preceptorship : Integrates: behavioral medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics, health organization, finance, health promotion, and occupational medicine. This course provides a weekly preceptorship in the community. YEAR TWO COURSES : * Circulation : Integrates: Pathophysiology of cardiovascular, renal and respiratory systems. * Metabolism : Integrates: Pathophysiology of nutrition, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems. * Neurosciences & Behavior : Integrates: Neuroanatomy, central nervous systems and psychiatry. * Blood : Integrates: Pathophysiology of hematologic and lymphatic systems. * Human Growth and Development : Integrates: Pathophysiology of reproductive systems focusing on development of life cycle and aging. * Principles of Clinical Medicine & Preceptorship : Integrates: behavioral medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics, health organization, finance, health promotion, and occupational medicine. This course provides a weekly preceptorship in the community. * Transition to Clerkships YEAR THREE COURSES o General Internal Medicine : Residents and attendings are to provide an orientation of their expectations of their third-year medicine clerks within 48 hours of beginning their rotation. Housestaff are responsible to teach students how to access their hospital computer system for patient information. Students should be provided mid-rotation feedback for mid-course correction potential in addition to end of rotations feedback. Students who are not performing at an acceptable level in any area should be informed and offered advice immediately. o Family Medicine : Interactive case-based learning sessions occur weekly and are designed to allow you the opportunity to discuss patient cases and practice clinical reasoning skills. Each week (except one week�see attached schedule) you will choose one case you encountered in your Family Medicine clinical experience. o Pediatrics I : You are here to learn as much pediatrics as you can during your five weeks. Take charge of that concept. Ask residents to �teach on the fly.� Teach each other. Keep lists of learning issues. Create differentials at morning report and for each pt you admit. o Ob-Gyn : You can decide to emphasize different aspects of the course, i.e. if you're going into radiology you may want to concentrate on ultrasounds, or if you're interested in cardiology you may want to concentrate more on the way pregnancy affects the heart or on diagnosis of congenital heart defects. You will have opportunities to pursue special interests in presentations among the students and for your teams. o Surgery I : This is a five week course in clinical surgery. The teaching sessions are designed to ensure completeness of coverage. Since none of these subjects will be entirely new to you, the instructors will provide opportunities to answer questions that may have arisen in earlier courses or in your reading. o Psychiatry o Rural Primary Care YEAR FOUR - CLERKSHIPS * Surgery II * Pediatrics II * Neurology * Subinternship or ICU * Electives * Transition to Residency |
